Conference & Workshop Interpreting in the USA
The goal of the workshop is to offer participants an overview of the world of medical and judicial interpreting in the United States. These are some of the topics we will discuss:
The medical interpreter way of life and work
Alberto Aguilar, a medical interpreter and trainer in Milwaukee, will provide an overview of the path medical interpreters walk. From the steps to to beginning a career in medical interpreting to the challenges they encounter in their daily work and how they market their services.
How certified judicial Interpreters work
Reme Bashi will present the details of judicial interpreting in the USA, allowing participants to understand the environment we work in. We will devote time to simulate an interpreter assignment. The presentation will explore real life examples of the work judicial interpreters do and will give you an opportunity to immerse yourself in the daily work of a judicial interpreter.

For assignments where we have to interpret for groups of people, we require the use of headsets in a simultaneous setting. Students learn how to plan these kind of events and get hands-on experience on handling the audio equipment.
We will invite everyone in attendance to participate in our interpreter role plays at the end of the workshop.
